at Wind Dance
Educational Programs
Homeschool students participate in outdoor exploration and hands-on activities, while learning about the earth and how it works. Science, history, art, traditional music, and literature are explored. Students acquire conflict resolution skills, respect for each other and all inhabitants of the earth we share.
Wind Dance Homeschool programs, for children ages 7 through 18, are designed to supplement the work students do during their studies at home. They are offered four days a week, during the school year, September through May. Participants may choose to attend one or two days a week.
In addition to school age programs, Wind Dance offers Early Childhood Farm & Nature Programs for ages 4-6.
Each day is designed around an age group, however, we are flexible with these groupings as we seek to accommodate family needs.
Students arrive between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. and are picked up between 3:15 and 3:30 p.m.

Environmental Education
Our programs focus on environmental education and other science activities, including nature journaling. We make time for choice, a quiet afternoon siesta, and reading a work of literature, a delightful follow up to siesta. Students also gather for a round of traditional song and dance and create works of art that are displayed at the Morgan County Arts Council’s Youth Art Month each March. They participate in farm chores, such as milking goats, feeding chickens, and mucking the stalls, and they join in conservation projects, such as planting trees, pulling invasive species, and protecting habitat.
Further Explorations...
In addition, participants joining for a second day explore the world of writing, literature, and history. Since this day is designed to accommodate a wide range of ages (7 through high school) the students are often divided into groups to work on different activities. Groups come back together at different times for choice—a time to explore, play and hang out—and for snack, lunch, literature, and siesta. Participants are often given a writing homework assignment. Each year students explore a different theme, often based on literature.

Prior to your children joining our programs, we require a family visit to Wind Dance. Enrollment is limited, and at this time, most programs are full for the 2022-23 school year.

Youth and Parent Voices
Aldo Leopold’s writings helped me to understand how our perception of the land and our environment around us is always changing. I’ve learned that there are many aspects of thinking about and of interacting with the land. I realized that to effectively protect something like the land that we live on that you must teach people to better appreciate it for more than just the objects they can acquire from it.

Before I read the “Sand County Almanac” I just saw the earth as a place I lived, but once I finished the readings I have a greater understanding of time and the earth.
